Mother nature thwarted us last Friday, but the rain and wind cleared for this morning's Walking Bus. Despite the cool weather, many families decided to enjoy the morning sun and walk to school. We witnessed buses from Roxshire, Queen's Park, and other local neighborhoods.
This was the first of four "official" walking buses that are planned for this year, so if you missed it, don't worry. There will be additional opportunities to get out and look for your classmates also walking to school. And, if you happen to participate in the Wednesday Running Club, consider a brisk warm-up walk to school on Wednesday mornings, too.
If you participated in the walking bus (or if you didn't), post your comments here on what worked, what didn't, and what could make it better. Or email brynadunn@comcast.net.

How did you get the word out about the event? Did you send home announcements with all the kids? How did you go about getting volunteers to walk with the kids? Here's a great FREE website that helps keep volunteers organized.

We advertised in our PTA newsletter, and send out a blast to all of our PTA members using PTO Manager. Parents were either required to walk with their children or ensure that their children had a friend or neighbor supervising. And everyone was reminded that safety was of utmost importance... and no crossing private property without advance permission! We're trying to make this as "self-sustaining" as possible, meaning we are trusting the participating families to work out their own details which eliminates the need to organize a lot of volunteers!
